ENERGY ISOLATING DEVICES ARE REQUIRED
The Standard for Control of Hazardous Energy, 29 C.F.R. §1910.147(1990), of the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) details "(The) practices and procedures that are necessary to disable machinery or equipment and to prevent the release of potentially hazardous energy while maintenance and servicing activities are being performed."

“The standard applies to any source of electrical, mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, thermal, or other energy.”

In summary, each piece of equipment must have a shutoff valve to isolate it from its air supply, and said valve shall be lockable in the closed position to prevent inadvertent opening. Additionally, these valves shall incorporate an exhaust port to vent downstream pressurized air.

LOCKOUT VALVES
We offer lockout-capable valves in a full range of port sizes and differing actuation modes. Each valve satisfies OSHA requirements for energy isolation and lockout. They are however, not intended for use as emergency stop devices.

MP valves utilize an easy push or slide motion to block the supply air in a system, and vent residual downstream air pressure. MP valves employ materials that allow the actuator to move smoothly even after extended periods on standby.

All Master Pneumatic lockout valves are secured in the closed position by means of a standard padlock
